AMD AM4 Processor Introduction
1. Introduction :
AMD Socket AM4 processors combine the central processing unit (CPU) with the graphics
processing unit (GPU) in a single-chip Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) package. Other Socket
AM4 processors do not include a graphics processor (see block diagram). The APU or processor
can be connected to an AMD 200-Series chipset through the PCIe® GPP interface to provide
connections to the different system devices.
- AMD Socket AM4 processor-based systems include the DDR memory interface, PCIe, Digital
Display Interface (DDI) ,power delivery, and miscellaneous test signals that connect to the
processor.
- The 200-Series Chipset shown in the following AM4 Processor Block Diagrams represents the
superset chipset configuration, there are models that provide different I/O.
- The Socket AM4 platform can support four different AMD processor Family/Model Numbers
using the CORETYPE[1:0] pins :
