THOUGHTS ON STURGIS Schultz The reason I go to Sturgis year after year is simple –
10 years now, and I love my campfire, which you can’t have if you camp anywhere in Meade County. If you don’t need a campfire (which makes no sense to me...), I would recommend staying at Full Throttle. There are also plenty of campgrounds all around Deadwood, Lead and Spearfish.
 T
the ride across country seeing friends that I only see once a year when I make the that trip. Everything else is a bonus and believe me, there is always somewhere new to ride to and something to see once you’re out there.
For Watering Holes: Three great ones are the Side Hack and the Oasis Bar in Sturgis and the Back Porch in Spearfish.
Places like Devils Tower, Mt. Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Sculpture, Spearfish Canyon, The Badlands, Custar State Park, Deadwood and of course the city of Sturgis itself pro- vide endless entertainment. Sturgis, just like Daytona and Laconia, provides something for all riders no matter what your tastes are - Great riding opportunities, all kinds of motorcycle events, music events, big and small – they’ve got it all. And of course, we can never forget about the Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club who put on great flat track racing, Moto Cross races and Hill Climbs. Make sure to stop by the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and see all of the great exhibits- there’s always something new there too!
Sights to See: You have to check out the Michael Lichter Photography Exhibit, which is held out in the Buffalo Chip, east of Sturgis. It is well worth the effort to ride and check it out. Michael's work is true art. The name of the show is "Passion Built: From Garage to Gallery".
If you’re making the trip to Sturgis this year, here are some tips for your trip:
For Food – There are lots around but here’s some sure bets: For Breakfast- Grace Lutheran Church at 1061 Sherman Street just off Junction Ave., one block south of Main Street, it’s all you can eat and I wish I could take them on the road with me. On Main Street, Weimers Diner does it right. In Spearfish, the winner- hands down- is Millstone Restaurant just off the second exit westbound on I 90, they are open 24 hours and keep the same menu and prices all year round, the food and staff are great.
Watch the weather; it can turn on you in minutes and in a bad way. Don't ride with a buzz, wait it out. Keep two feet on the ground at all stop signs. Stay away from the center line. Don't speed and ALWAYS watch for animals, day and night.
First things first - Safety Facts:
Camping/Lodging - You're on your own with the hotels – But for camping, my camp of choice is Chris' Campground, it has been my home for the Rally for over
While riding through the Badlands, a great Gas & Rest Stop is at the Cowboy Stop in Interior, great staff and hospitality.
For Supplies of all Kinds – the only one I go to is Grocery Mart on Junction Ave. It is Best grocery store in the area, period!
Ride safe and live to enjoy! #
