TDOWER STREET VINTAGE HILL CLIMB EXPO TUESDAY, JUNE 16
id you know that the original “Laconia” Hillclimbs were held on Tower Street right off Lakeside Avenue in the Weirs? 1916 was the first hillclimb on Tower Street in the early days of the Gypsy Tour and subsequent races. Tower Street was dirt road in those early years and of course, very challenging. Today, Tower Street is paved but is still just at steep and remains a real spectacle of motor- cycle sounds and sights as they climb the hill racing for speed.
Sometime after 1924, the eventual AMA Sanctioned Hillclimb moved to the Gunstock Mountain Resort on the 70-meter ski jump. Today the Vintage Tower Hill Hillclimb Expo on Tuesday June 16 in the Weirs will get you geared up for the Gunstock Pro-Am event at Gunstock on Wednesday June 17th.
Join us in the heart of the Weirs for the Tower Street Hillclimb on Tuesday from 10:30am to 1:30pm. The “Hillclimb Exhibition” is hosted by the United States Classic Racing Association (USCRA). This completely free unique event is definitely a blast from the past featur- ing vintage machines from 1916 to the late 1960’s! A 1916 Excelsior won the King of the Hill honors last
year. Make sure to get there early for a good viewing spot along the Tower Street hill. H
