Established in 1878, Makassed Philanthropic Islamic Association is among the
oldest and largest nongovernmental organizations in the Middle East. Its primary
mission is to provide educational services, academic, vocational and technical
training and medical care to the Lebanese community through its 40 schools in
all regions of Lebanon, three colleges which form the nucleus of the Makassed
University, 8 primary health care centers and a 200 bed teaching hospital
with post graduate medical specialization. Makassed remains committed to
improving the quality of life through sustainable human development.

The Makassed University offers at the College of Nursing and Health Sciences,
Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Respiratory Therapy and Medical Radiation
Technology. In 2013 it was also licensed to offer the Masters program in
Nursing. The program was benchmarked against similar programs in different
regional and western countries, and designed to reflect international standards
in nursing education and practice. During the academic 2015-16, the College of
Nursing and Health Sciences launched the RN/RT Program. The main objective
was to provide trainees with a sound knowledge base and skills to perform safe
and effective respiratory care. It also launched the RN/BSN Bridging Program
for nurses who have technical degrees and wish to upgrade their knowledge
and skills and pursue academic degrees in nursing. Since the college is
in close proximity to its sister institution Makassed General Hospital, this
teaching hospital offers training facilities in Nursing, Administration, Pharmacy,
Nutrition, Quality Assurance, Infection Control, Medical Records as well as most
paramedical and administrative services. Together, joint training programs in
Emergency Medical Services, Critical Care, Hematology/Oncology, Operating
Room, Leadership, Basic Life Support and others are also offered.

The College of Islamic Studies offers PhD and MA in Islamic Studies; in addition
to BA in Education offered by the College of Education and Teacher Training.
Training opportunities are also available at Makassed schools and directories
for students majoring in education, business, medical and other health care
specialties. Health professions are in high demand in Lebanese health care
institutions, the Gulf Region, as well as Western countries. Attractive job
