Technology
Over many decades, and until recently, batteries
were seen as hazardous waste. In doing so, they
can serve as valuable sources of raw materials.
New Business
That's why Volkswagen is already working on a Battery lifecycle
recycling concept for batteries. The goal: To
return valuable raw materials to the
New Standards manufacturing process chain.
In 2020, a pilot recycling plant will be set up in
Salzgitter. Batteries can be recycled here as
E-Readiness early as 2020 – an initial 1,200 tonnes per year.
Rollout
That equates to 3,000 vehicle batteries. A further
increase in capacity for the years following is
planned. In any case, however, there will only
