Green Cleaning represents a better way to keep your facility safer and healthy for our
employees and patrons. Use this 8-step guide as a tool to get your green program started.

         Step #1 - Create a Plan ®
         • Consider writing a mission statement - i.e. To provide a cleaner, safer, What the EarthCare Seal
healthy environment for all of the staff, students, patrons of XYZ Means to You.
           Company [School System].
         • Your plan should consider the people who are involved, the products
required and the procedures to use them.

Step #2 - “Stop Dirt at the Door”

Your green program starts outside of the building. Eighty percent of dirt
comes from the outside. Mats should be at all entrances - inside and out.
Using a high quality mat will provide longer mat life and save money in the
long run. Mats should be at least 10-12 feet in length and should be
directed to stay on the mat.
The presence of the Triple S EarthCare® Seal indicates
For a selection of mats and matting solutions that conform to that a product meets “green” standards from a

EPA) or the product offers significant features

that contribute to the preservation and sustainability
Step #3 - Use Green Certified Products of a healthy environment. Look for the Triple S

                                                                     products.
         Green Cleaning Tips:
         • Focus on touch points to reduce cross-contamination - doorknobs, etc. For more information, contact your Triple S Distributor.
         • Apply disinfectants properly - use proper dwell time to use minimal
           amount of product.
         • Carpet extracting - use air blowers to reduce the change of mold growth.

         • Spills - quick clean-up will require milder and fewer chemicals.
         For Green Certified products, see pages 47, 48, 64, 65, 67, 83-87, 89, 94, 95, 112, 114, 117-121, 124, 127, 129-134, and 150-155.
For Green Certified floor care products, see page 4-6 and 11.

Step #4 - Ensure Proper Vacuuming
We recommend the use of vacuums approved by the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) Green Label Program. For a vacuum to be approved by
CRI it must pass three stringent tests for soil removal, tion & dust containment and carpet retention (appearance). Part of your vacuum
program should include a vacuum bag program/schedule. Be sure to check bag before each use. Don’t wait until bags are full.
Your equipment should be ergonomically designed to protect the user’s health and reduce fatigue and injuries.
For CRI tested cleaners and approved vacuums, please see pages 56, 57, 60-62.
