Dora Davison
Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Fudge
Fun fact: Mike was an adult before he realized that you could eat fudge cold!
2 cups of sugar
3/4 cup of milk
pinch of salt
2 Tablespoons of butter
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1. Butter a large plate or platter.
2. Put sugar, milk, and salt in a 2 quart pot over medium high heat and stir
constantly. You want the mixture to reach the soft ball stage on a candy
thermometer or if you don't have a candy thermometer you can drop a little of
the mixture into cold water and see if it forms a soft ball. The color of the
mixture will go from a kind of milky white to a pale beige color which is also an
indicator that you are near the right temperature.
3. Take pan off the heat and add butter, peanut butter, and vanilla. Stir vigorously and
pour into prepared plate/platter.
4. The mixture will harden quickly if you have achieved the correct soft ball stage. Let
set and cut into pieces. Enjoy. Or if you are making this for yourself sit down with
the pot with a spoon and pray you don't burn your mouth.
