the tagging program and released five fish over 40 lb with satellite tags. Something we all are very excited about! We are anticipating the results to see what we can further learn about these incredible and lesser-known species.
Guests Gregg Bedell and Cindi Baird visited to the lodge with their friends John and Patricia Stauffer and Michael and Julie Fields. The six of them love to fish and travel together enjoying ad- ventures in new parts of the world. The couples fished aboard our 45’ Hatteras, Pollyanna, and had some great angling. They caught more than a boat load of Tuna and everyone was in on the action. Michael Shields wrestled an large Almaco Jack of over 50 lb. Cindi released a Roosterfish of around 70 lb. Patricia released a gorgeous Black Marlin of 400 lb. It was great spending time with the group and we can’t wait to see them back next March.
Hans Pomeroy and Alfred Corrier have been to the lodge before and brought their friends Dennis Fetch and Richard Franz this year to show them a good time on the water. Well, the guys really started off with a bang– on day one
they released nine Roosterfish with the big-
gest being around 45 lb, and the best part
was that this was after catching around 30
Yellowfin Tuna in the 20 lb to 60 lb range.
For the rest of the trip Capt. Candelo had
the guys working hard on the reels and the
gents celebrated each afternoon when they
came back with a rum, (except for Hans, he
had his Absolute and grapefruit, as always).
Bruno Van Marckle and Ilse Gov- aere had their first trip to Tropic Star Lodge and it was all sorts of fun and games. The
couple fished on Scandia with Capt. Jose who solidly put them on the fish. The couple released a prehistoric Cubera Snapper along with multiple Roosterfish. The also stretched their arms with Yel- lowfin Tuna action on the surface. Hugo also released a beautiful Black Marlin of around 400 lb. Hugo is no beginner to fishing and has a world record for a Bronze Whaler Shark caught off West Africa, Namibia, Henties Baai.
Our returning guest, Eugenio Rubio, brought his son, Eu- genio Jr., and long-time friend, Marco Alvare. The trio caught about 150 Yellowfin Tuna in total during their stay and a few extra large sharks. Eugenio Jr. got to feel the pull of a Marlin for the first time, but unfortunately it came off after a three hour-long grueling fight. Marco, though, managed to release his first Marlin. It was the fish of the week called at 550 lb by Capt. Candelo.
Scott and Wendy Robertson brought their family down for an action-packed fishing adventure. Clayton and Kenneth had their fair share of Yellowfin Tuna action and even took on some of the
big sharks. Scott has been chasing his Marlin for 35 years with ill luck, but Neptune grant- ed him his wish with a 450 lb Black Marlin right out the gate. Wendy, not being one to be outdone, also released a magnificent Marlin of 400 lb on the very same day as her daughter, Raegan, released her first billfish. A 80 lb Pa- cific Sailfish.
Our summer time bite in the jungle is my fa- vorite time of the year. There is action offshore and inshore, so anglers arrive with a long list of target species and can go after them all. The weather is also great with a bit of cloud cover
