and afternoon showers which help to cool things down a little. The Sailfish and Dorado are the first to show up as the water starts to warm back up.
The Blue Marlin are right behind them. This is the time of year that we see the bigger Blues of over 500 lb. The Offshore bite gets better and better as the season continues. Fishing along the current lines for Blue Marlin, Sail-
fish and Dorado are a staple. We still
get the Yellowfin Tuna in large shoals
in amongst the huge pods of porpoise
and the Humpback Whales are out in
full force. Closer inshore, the Black
Marlin can be caught on any given
day, as always in these waters.
Along the rugged Darien coastline the inshore bite is consis- tently great all the way into Septem- ber with Wahoo showing up some- where near the end of July and the Offshore billfish bite will just get stronger and stronger with even more dorado showing up in the sets.
Guests Mark and Patty Lucht
are part of our extended Tropic Star
Family. It was great visiting with them especially since they cele- brated their 10th wedding anniversary with us. Mark and Patty had some great fishing aboard Miss Scandia, our newly redone boat with Capt. Jose. Both Mark and Patty are avid anglers with a lot of experience. Mark got to put this experience to good use as he fought and released a couple Marlin which gave him a memora- ble fight. Mark also released a monster Roosterfish. They had more
than a few Yellowfin, large Dorado, multiple Roosterfish, and some Cubera Snapper just to top it all off.
Florida Radio personality and avid fisherman, Paul Cas- tronovo and his lifelong fishing buddy, Thomas Barba, brought their sons to Panama on a father-son fishing trip. The two sons, Anthony and Thomas, had heard all about Tropic Star from their dads and
had done their research on the In- ternet. It was great spending time with the gents and the tales from their day out on the water was fun to hear each afternoon. They expe- rienced it all! An insane Tuna feed- ing frenzy where everyone hooked up on poppers, releasing their first Roosterfish, Cubera Snapper, Mullet Snapper and various oth- er Snapper species including the Green Bar Snapper (which locals say taste like tennis shoes). Coming from Florida they were also intro- duced to the Pacific Dorado, which is just the same as the Atlantic, just much larger. The guys had an amaz-
ing trip with memories to last a lifetime.
Doug and Dina Levesque brought the whole family down
to Tropic Star for a family holiday. The kids, Blair and Trey, brought their significant others, Mercedes Sanchez and Anthony Castorini. What a good time the family had! The group had a wide variety of fish that they wanted to target during their trip– and they did pretty darn well. Blair released her first Roosterfish which was 60 lb! However, the really special part, was she fought it at the
