Brislington Football Club Statement
A er the release of the league alloca ons, we would like
to give the reasons why we applied for voluntary
relega on to Division 1.
A er the final game of the season the commi ee met to
discuss the next season and we concerned that with
Exmouth & Tavistock being promoted & Falmouth,
Torpoint & Barnstaple coming in the extra mileage involved was going to be
500 miles. Coach costs were going to be a-lot more and the club has
struggled this season to find the extra money.
We were also aware that we were likely to lose our current management
team & some players which we would mean completely rebuilding for next
season. We could not guarantee we would be able to have a side that would
be able to complete in a strong premier division.
We felt the future of the football club had to be secured and had only 2
op ons open to us.
1. Apply for lateral movement to the Hellenic league but to be honest we
did not want to leave the Western League.
We applied last season for lateral movement but were refused
2. Take voluntary relega on to Division 1.
We spoke to the league & decided the 2nd op on was the best way forward
for the club. By no means was this an easy decision as we have been in the
Premier Division since 1995.
We have enjoyed playing the new teams that have come into the league but
the travelling is totally unreasonable for this level of football & the future
of Brislington FC had to come first.
We looking forward to visi ng new clubs next season & also renewing old
rivalries.
