P. 15
Bris v Radstock Town
Doddimead calmly rolled his first me effort past the advancing keeper into the empty net. 2-0
Brislington and it looked like the door could be open for many more!!
Alas this was not to be, instead it was Radstock who looked the livelier, thankfully for the home side
they just lacked the quality to capitalise when in possession the half finishing 2-0 Brislington.
The second half con nued on just as the 1st half had played out, only without the goals. Jekyll and
Hyde moments of good play followed by bad play was a constant theme, and every me it looked
like there would be a promising a ack the decisive ball would fail, the shot was poor, the wrong
decision was made. At the other end the defence showed the reason why they’ve only conceded 30
goals in 37 games, and within the blink of an eye an uncharacteris c error would see them back
under pressure. Along with the mistakes there was a fragmented shape about the Foxes which saw
the game become stretched and with huge gaps appearing in the middle third it turned into a bit of
a free for all. Manager Lee Perks made changes to freshen up the a ack, with Mclennan, Jones &
Doddimead making way for Williams, Egan & Buck.
This did have an impact to some degree, Egan showed control and his trademark passing range, with
Buck and Williams providing threat going forward and boosted energy. on 60 minutes good work on
the le between Williams, Ricke s and Egan saw a lovely cross from Williams find Buck driving in at
the far post however his stretching half volley flew over the Bar.
Two minutes late another glorious chance fell to Buck who'd med his diagonal run to perfec on to
latch on to an equally perfectly weighted defence spli ng pass from Jordan Ricke s. His shot was
saved by the outstretched foot of Laws heading out for a corner.
The poor concentra on and responsibility from the home side was typified when a Brislington corner
was cleared, by the visitors, no one was on hand to pick up the pieces, and Radstock were allowed
to break at speed. Radstocks le winger ran from just outside his own box drawing Scadding out from
covering the centre leaving Allward facing the lone striker, and three Radstock players who had
broken unchecked to hit the halfway line, Allward briefly 1 v 4, fortunately the decisive ball wasn't
supplied and the retrea ng Foxes managed to get back and thwart the a ack, when in all honesty
they should well have been facing a restart and a halving of their lead!!
Joel Smith replaced Lewis Dunn, who hadn't looked his usual 'calmly assured' self and who was
suffering the effects of a bang to the head, Ricke s dropping in to the back four.
Another good chance came and went when Egen's pinpoint cross from the right found Williams at
the far post, unfortunately his shot was blocked, and his regather and cross was held well by Laws
Buck again was played in by Williams who's lovely flick with the outside of his le boot, found the
wide mans run, his well struck shot from the angle was parried away well. The resul ng corner saw
the ball make it's way all the way back to Dorrington, as if one piece of play could some sum up the
evening for the home side.
Brislington did have one more good half chance, when a short corner between Me ers and Egan saw
Egan's beau fully driven cross met well by Buck who managed to beat the Radstock defender to the
header however he just couldn't get above the ball to guide it in.
Final Score Brislington 2 Radstock Town 0
23 wins in a row, and not a vintage performance by any stretch of the imagina on, but if the sign of
a good side is being able to win when not playing at their best and this squad has definitely shown
it's got the quality and character to do just that.
This result leaves the Foxes with four points needed to clinch the tle. Next up 6th placed
Shirehampton away at the Creek on Good Friday Kick off 1pm, then 4th placed Oldland at home on
Easter Monday KO 3pm.
