Welcome to the Lancer Scott Stadum
Good afternoon and welcome to the
Lancer Scott stadium for this
afternoon‘s visit of Ilfracombe Town
FC. I hope their supporter’s, officials
and players enjoy their day with us
and wish them a safe journey back
down the M5 to North Devon.
To say last week’s defeat at Cadbury
Heath was a disappointment, is
putting it mildly!! For 60 minutes,
Heath were really up the challenge,
first to most balls and winning their
personal battles. Yet we had more
than enough chances in the game to
win it. The qualities the players
displayed against Keynsham, Bridgwater and Bitton went missing, just when we
needed them most. Definitely a missed opportunity to close the gap on Cadbury
Heath who are 1 place above us.
Despite the afternoon’s result, last Saturday night, we still managed to have a good
xmas night out at Totos, in Bristol, organised by Pressy, well done Tom.
I would like to take this opportunity to formally welcome a few new players to the
club who have joined in the last couple of weeks. Joel Manning joined us from
Bromley Heath to play in goal, Reece Hedges, centre half, came from Hallen FC in
the Hellenic league, Striker George Brimson has moved from Roman Glass. All look
good players, very useful additions to the squad and seem to be the right sort of
characters ready to mix into a very loyal squad and up for a relegation battle.
Onto todays visitors, its 14 seasons since paths have crossed and in somewhat
similar circumstances. 2006/07 in Division 1, Ilfracombe finished 3rd, 1 point
behind promoted Portishead in a season dominated by Truro, 115 points and just
1 defeat. Backwell finished 18th. The 2 sides met, 14th October in North Devon
with the hosts taking the points in a close 4-3. Our goals came from Gary Beale,
and Liam Peart 2, (liam is still going ,played for Brislington last week!!) In the
return fixture here, 2 goals from the legend Adam Crooks ( now with Imperial),
John Toy 1(Toysy is now manager at Bishop sutton) and Tim Carter gave us a
(probably surprising) 4-1 victory. I WILL TAKE THAT TODAY!! Town are good form,
undefeated in 5 games and in 5th place level with Bridgwater and must be eying
up 2nd place with a few games in hand on Bitton.
Next game here at the Lancer Scott stadium, is Monday 27th Dec. with the
Reserves continuing their promotion push with a festive derby against Long Ashton
2pm KO. On the same day The 1st team make the short trip to Brislington 1pm K.O.
The 1st team host Cadbury Heath on bank holiday Monday jan. 3rd kick off
1pm.Please come along to give them your support, Im sure you will be entertained.
I wish you all a very merry Christmas, a happy and healthy new year
Thank you for your support today, enjoy the game and please respect the officials.
