Bris v Oldland Abbotonians
Oldland's Macleod a booking. George Jones was close again on the 25 minute mark, his
audacious effort from near the half way line had the goalkeepers a en on, the ball just
dropping over the crossbar. A minute later a Scadding through ball found Jones again but
he couldn't get the power into his shot to trouble Norman who saved comfortably.
Oldland did trouble Humphries with a Stef Lee effort which looped onto the bar, the
visitors coming back into the game a er a strong spell of pressure, but they didn't do
enough consistently to worry the Foxes back line and it wasn't long before the hosts had
extended their lead.
In the 40th minute, a brilliant passing move down the right culminated in Ewins superb
ball, the fullback drilling the ball low across the face of goal for Scadding who had med
his run perfectly bea ng his marker to the ball and li ing it into the roof of the Oldland net.
2-0 Brislington. There was s ll me for another Jones effort on goal a er another slick
passing move down the right saw Jones with a snapshot from the six yard box but he was
closed down well by the Abbots keeper.
Half Time: Brislington 2 Oldland 0
The second half largely resembled the first, with Brislington controlling the ball, and
keeping possession for long periods. Oldland were s ll working hard but showing their
frustra on with some heavy late challenges, it looked very much as if there was an 'injury
looming' at some point.
10 mins in Jordan Williams latched onto a George Jones neat pass inside the fullback
however Williams miscued the shot although stretching and with his wrong foot.
The long periods of good play rarely ended up with a meaningful effort on goal and you
could sense a staleness about the play, likely due to fa gue so manager Lee Perks looked
to make changes with 30 mins to play. First, Scadding was replaced by Lewis Dunn, then
Doddimead was swapped with McLennan. Doddimead had just received a double almost
iden cal 'assault' from the same player who in my opinion could easily have seen a yellow
for his first foul but didn't, then 30 seconds later flew into the back of the Foxes frontman
in the same brutal manner this me receiving a cau on which could easily been a red in
it's own right!
Five minutes later James Dunn replaced Jones, and it was Dunn who had the next
meaningful chance of the second half receiving the ball on the half turn hi ng a ferocious
strike, only for the keeper to pull off a great finger p save. There was s ll me for 1 more
sub as Tucker replaced the excellent Ewins the game ending 2-0 to the Foxes. This result
makes it 26 wins in a row on to Wednesday for the return fixture at Aitchison Playing Field,
Oldland common.
Man Of The Match - Lewis Ewins who was excellent at both ends plus a brilliant assist for
Brislington's 2nd goal.
