Maurice Naylor

                              THE LOSS OF A STALWART
It is with deep sadness that we have to
announce the passing of our dear friend
Maurice Naylor, who died at his home in
Backwell four days short of his 85th
                                        birthday
Maurice was a staunch Ashton and Backwell
United FC supporter and was a regular face
at the Lancer Scott Stadium for almost four
decades after he and his family moved to
                                        Backwell in the early 1980s.

A keen football fan, the father-of-two, loved
nothing more in his later life than spending
his Saturday afternoons watching the Stags
with his two pals, Mike and Tony, from the
 Meet the Player terraces.

A former football referee, all he asked for in the teams that visited the recreation
ground was fair play and respect for the officials who gave up their afternoons
so the players could play and the supporters could cheer on the respective sides.

Originally from Nottingham, Maurice moved to Backwell with his job as a
scientist at Imperial Tobacco Ltd in the then Bedminster site in late 1982.

He later lectured in science at the University of the West of England until his
retirement at the age of 65.

Sadly he lost his beloved wife of more than 40 years, Pat, in 2004 to a brain
        tumour.
Maurice himself had a number of health conditions throughout his life and was
diagnosed with myeloma, a type of bone marrow cancer, in August of this year.
He died at his Backwell home over the weekend of October 10/11, 2021 and
leaves daughter Diane, of Axbridge, son Martin, a former Nailsea School pupil,
now of Nottingham and granddaughter Daisy, who lives in Portishead.

We offer our sincere condolences to Diane, Martin and all his family and friends.
        He will be sorely missed.
