Leaders show their worth

                               Saturday 12th February 2022
                                 Tavistock 3 Brislington 0

On Saturday we travelled to league leaders Tavistock. We le the rela vely good weather
of Bristol and arrived to the wind and heavy rain in Devon.
New signing Joe McLennan went straight into the side with Lewis Dunn & Jordan Scadding
up front. Conor Mccormack was back from injury but we were missing Asa White & George
       Jones.
The pitch was already heavy before the game started and it was clear to see it would get
worse as the game went on.
We started brightly and we’re trying to move the ball around, but on 8mins a misplaced
pass by Scadding put in the home side they got the ball to our right and the home side
forward put the ball in the roof of the net 1-0.
Despite the early set back we showed we weren’t there to make up the numbers. The
home side found a solid defence hard to break down and if they did the in form George
Dorrington was showing good hands in difficult condi ons.
On 21mins we had our first real chance when Ash Kington shot from range only to see the
       keeper punch his effort away.
On 32mins it was Kington again who tested the keeper with a free kick which was palmed
       away by the keeper.
On 43mins when we looked to be ge ng to half me only trailing by one the home side
hit us on the counter a ack Dorrington made the save but the No 9 reacted quickly to put
the ball in the net for 2-0. Do not think we deserved to go in at half me 2-0 down.
With the pitch ge ng worse we knew the next goal would be crucial. The home side had
the first effort but were again denied by Dorrington.
We then broke and a great ball to the back post was met on the volley by McLennan whose
effort was turned over by the keeper.
On 53mins the home side increased their lead. The ref waved play on a er we commi ed
a foul and good feet by the Tavistock player enabled to find space and put the ball in the
       bo om corner.
The game was becoming hard on a rapidly deteriora ng pitch and when chances were
created both keepers were proving hard to beat.
Our best chance came in the last minute when Kington’s effort went through the keepers
legs and went for a corner.
       FT 3-0

Was always going to be tough against the leaders and on a very tough pitch. But credit to
both sides for trying to play football on it.
This week we travel to Cornwall to face Millbrook before a home game to Mousehole.
The reserves won 4-2 away to Nicholas Wanderers A with goals from Liam Peart, Josh
Knight, Craig Knight & Damien Abraham.
