Avonmouth v Rockleaze Rangers

The last home game of the season at the King George’s Memorial Ground
Avonmouth saw Rockleaze Rangers again take on Avonmouth just a couple of
weeks after the clubs previous encounter, which they deservedly won 2-0 on their
4G pitch. Knowing that the County League management and sponsors Marcliff
would be in attendance to present the County League Cup added extra reasons to
endeavour to reverse the previous game’s result.

Ash Bennett and his coaching team had worked hard to structure a winning game
plan and motivate the team to produce the correct result that all the committee and
supporters were hoping for, and who have all been outstanding this season.
Spurred on by the over 180 crowd, the team quickly got into their stride and went
2 up by half time, with both goals scored by Matt Groves. If it hadn’t of been for
some great saves by Rockleaze keeper Alex Durrani the score would have been
       greater in Avonmouth’s favour.
The second half started as the first with Avonmouth well in control but with
Rockleaze playing good football in the middle of the park and the Avonmouth
defence snuffing out all their attacking moves, with keeper Tom Bradley handling
well in the box. Avonmouth then went 3 up when Kyle O’Donovan scored and
shortly after Jack Williams made it 4-0. Avonmouth then went to sleep twice in
quick time when both Bradley and Mark Williams failed to deal with long balls and
even seeing an air-kick by Bradley to give Rockleaze their second goal.
       Normality returned to the
       King George’s Memorial
       ground when Avonmouth
       again took full control with
       goals from Groves, for his
       hat-trick and then finally
       with Josh Pearce getting on
       the score sheet after being
       denied twice in the first
       half by keeper Durrani. The
       final 15 minutes were
       played out by both sides
       realising the game was
       over with Avonmouth 6-2
       winners. Referee Simon
       Turner’s final whistle was
       the cue for the Avonmouth
       team and supporters to
       commence their
       celebrations and to enjoy
       the Gloucestershire County
       League cup presentation.
