Avonmouth v Almondsbury

                   September 9 Les James Cup
                                        th

In the first 15 minutes Avonmouth saw most of the ball but neither keeper was
threatened. After 22 minutes the first real chance went to Almondsbury after some
quick footwork in the final third that led to a shot that hit the post.
After 23 minutes Matt Harmer had the ball squared to him but his goal bound shot
cannoned back off the post denying Almondsbury the lead. On 33 minutes
Avonmouth’s Charlie Aldom hit a rocket shot from outside the box that beat
Almondsbury keeper Jack Hoptroff but crashed against the cross bar.

Then the dangerous Harmer hit a free kick from 25 yards that was pushed over
the bar by Avonmouth’s keeper Tom Bradley. Aldom again finding space received
the ball over the top of the defence but his volley was just inches wide of the
       Almondsbury goal.
The Avonmouth pressure finally paid off just before half time when Tommy Cox cut
in from the left wing and hit his shot over the keeper into the far top corner of the
goal, one nil at half time.
Early in the second half Avonmouth brought on subs Kyle O’Donovan and Matty
Groves for Regan Lashenko and Tom Cox, who had both worked hard, with Groves
immediately showing his footballing magic. Early in the second half, following a
fantastic pass from Kofi Martin, Jack Williams doubled the Avonmouth score. Two
Avonmouth subs then combined to make it 3 nil when Groves laid the ball onto
Dillon Kerr for a tap-in from a few yards out.
Groves then played a one-two with sub Ben Allison, resulting in Groves smashing
the ball into the right corner of the Almondsbury net. Following a scramble in the
Almondsbury box, O’Donovan chipped the ball over the keeper to Kerr who after
several touches fired the ball into the goal, 5-nil.

Much to the upset of Avonmouth’s manager Ashley Bennett, who felt his side lost
concentration perhaps due to the sweltering conditions, which led to Almondsbury
scoring two late goals. The first following a header that hit both the cross bar and
upright and then rebounded into the net off keeper Bradley and then shortly after,
the Almondsbury Ashley Night hammered the ball into the Avonmouth goal,
       making the final score 5-2.
