Cheer for Bris at last
Saturday 23rd October 2021
Shepton Mallet 3 Brislington 4 ATT 152
Scorers - Jones 2, Dunn, Prangley (pen)
Last week we travelled to Shepton Mallet looking to get back to winning ways a er 2 heavy defeats
& the bad injury to Kieron Proctor last week against Exmouth.
Perksy had secured the signings of Midfielder Ashley Kington from Bi on & striker Leon Clayton -
Clarke from Ashton & Backwell.
We also welcomed back Harry Tobin a er 10 weeks out with a knee injury.
Callum Heal replaced Jason Ma hews in goal, with Kington going into midfield enabling George
Jones to take a familiar role up front.
The game was a cagey affair for 17 mins with Bris doing exactly what was asked of them keeping the
game ght. It’s always a tough ask playing up the slope but our defence we’re playing well and
dealing with most things the home side threw at us.
On 19 mins the game sparked into life when Asa White found some space on the right and put in a
decent ball to find Jones who had an easy tap in at the back post to make it 1-0.
Our lead didn’t last long when the home sides dangerous No 7 put in a cross to find Fillingham
unmarked to head home an level the scores 1-1.
We were working hard all over the park in a more determined performance.
On 29mins a Prangley corner was cleared back to him. He found Jones in the box whose ini al shot
was saved but Lewis Dunn followed up to make it 2-1 with his first goal of the season.
The home side then stepped up their game and put us under pressure with one effort coming back
off the bar & 2 chances going just wide. But we managed to get to half me with a 2-1 lead but knew
more hard work would be required if we were to win the game.
We started on the front foot but on 54mins from our corner the keeper claimed the ball and
launched a ball up the pitch which found Fillingham whose ball into the box found Tucker - Dixon who
slide the ball past Heal to make it 2-2.
A couple of weeks ago we might have folded but the whole team stepped up. Brace was working in
hard just behind Jones pu ng con nued pressure on their back 4.
On 62mins a ball found Jones in the box but he was adjudged to have been fouled and the ref
awarded the penalty. Prangley stepped up and put the ball to the keepers right to make it 3-2.
We didn’t have to wait long for our 4th Scadding out-muscled the home defence to break into the
box square the ball to the unmarked Jones who fired in from close range to make it 4-2.
To keep legs fresh Perksy bought on Clayton - Clarke for the hard working Scadding and showed
straight away what an asset he could be ge ng at the home defence on a couple of occasions.
We then welcomed back Harry Tobin from injury when he replaced Jones who had worked hard all
game and showed his ins nct for goal with ge ng himself in good posi ons for his 2 goals.
The home side con nued to threaten and in the 93rd min a long range dipping effort hit the bar and
rebounded to the striker who headed home to make it 3-4.
This was the last ac on of the game and we came away with 3 needed points from a hard working
performance across the park. The whole team showed we have the ability & desire to win games
despite being pegged back twice.
Next Saturday we welcome Buckland Athle c to The Poplar Insula on KO 3pm. Perksy is hopeful to
have another signing on board.
Our away to Saltash on 6th November has to be rearranged to later in the season due to the home
side having to play a county cup fixture on that date.
The Reserves con nued their good start to the season with a hard fought 1-1 draw away to a very
strong Shirehamton ‘A’ team. Elliot Saunders scoring the goal.
