VICTORIA In 2017, when the new CPVI regulations came
NEWS into place the regulator decided that a few things
were not worthy of being against the rules. One
such thing was touting. The CPVV took away
the regulation that prohibited touting and its
associated fine.
Since then touting has become rampant at
Melbourne Airport, Crown Casino and major
events.
Transport Alliance Australia has worked very
closely with Rod Barton MP, Leader of Transport
Matters Party, and Rod and his team has worked
tirelessly over the past ten months to get the
Commercial Passenger Vehicle Industry Act 2017
amended.
The amendments sought have been accepted
and will be implemented before Christmas 2019.
The Act is to be updated to include provision
for offences prohibiting persons from directly
approaching other persons and offering them
the provision of a commercial passenger vehicle
service.
In short - touting is ILLEGAL and perpetrators will
be prosecuted.
"Touting is an unintended consequence of the
industry reform legislation of 2017 and ending this
dangerous practice is a first step in fixing a badly
broken taxi and hire car industry," said Mr Barton.
There has also been a huge increase in illegal
operators offering transport in vehicles without
accreditation (and possibly no current roadworthy,
commercial insurance or vehicle registration) and
