The performance was led
by the brilliant young
Italian-born pianist Rodolfo
Leone, who excelled in
his interpretation of
Beethoven’s famous Third
Piano Concerto–arguably
the piece that cemented his
reputation and gave rise to
the Romantic Era of classical
music. After intermission,
soprano Emily Finke joined
the orchestra as it added
Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 to
its repertoire.
The final performance
for the season occurred
April 10th, and spotlight
famous Jewish composer
Erich Wolfgang Korngold.
Korngold found a safe haven
in Hollywood during WWII
and this lush symphonic
work vividly interwove
music from four of his film
scores, and featured the
upbeat Symphony No. 8
by Dvořák and William
Schuman’s New England
Triptych, with guest
performance by violin
phenome Midori.
Sustained greatness is a
dual-bladed sword; though
irreplicable, it can lead to
desensitization. After all,
how much higher could
the metaphorical bar be
set? Fortunately for Club
Braman Members and
the wider Palm Beach
community, the Palm Beach
Symphony has given no
indication that the top is
anywhere in sight.
