Arriving home the family piled in and we hit one of our favourite country pubs for a bit of dinner. The boys (although they are as tall as me now) seemed to be happy with the rear seating and as usual Harvey had the full entertainment system fgured out and had settled in for a long journey even though it only took 20 mins to get to the Littleton Arms.Saturday morning. I bailed out early for British GT at Silverstone. The Bentayga had the optional fold out seat in the boot, which is a contraption that affords a tailgate type seat for “the races” (just like the actual tailgate of a Range Rover) in this case though it was a cumbersome lump taking up boot space and I needed to load up with magazines for the hospitality suites so I removed it and stowed it in the garage. I was in good time so a smooth cruise down to meet Chris near the circuit would give me an idea of fuel consumption, which has become a bit of an obsession of mine over the last few years. Don’t get me wrong I’m not on some kind of crusade, I just think stopping to fll up every couple of hundred miles is boring and adds a lot of time to a long journey. Modern engine technology can deliver decent fuel mileage from even the fastest of super cars. As I pick up Chris and arrive in the paddock the rain is almost biblical at Silverstone. So we slowly burble (the engine does sound great from outside) down the paddock dropping boxes of magazines with the teams before taking our parking spot outside the SRO racing club. A dash through the rain for some tea and refreshments and a look at the day’s schedule from the comfort to the SRO club. We can see a crowd gathering around the Bentley. So they’ve ticked that box, it certainly attracted a lot of attention over the weekend. On my way home Saturday evening after a long day braving the elements and watching some fantastic racing it was a dream to drive, the signature quilted stitching on the soft leather seats was a welcome oasis of calm as I charge up the motorway. I pulled into the petrol station near home and the best part of £100 later and my gates are closing behind the Bentayga.98
