We were going through content for the Decadence issue and Jenny asks what we have for music? We have nothing yet. “these guys sound pretty cool” she comments. So, we decide to hang around and see what the evening brings. I order a few bar snacks to stave off the hunger and we settle in. The rst act is a singer song writer girl, which is the usual fair for the Live Lounge Tuesday Nights, then there’s another act, but I notice the two guys, who we now know are a rock band called Duke of Wolves have been joined by another chap. I comment to Jenny that he is de nitely in the band, he has that look about him...
The two guys from earlier take to their stools, whilst the “rock star” sits on a Cajon (which is one of those drum boxes you sit on and play with your hands), they introduce themselves as three quarters of the Duke of Wolves as their bass player is not
with them tonight, and launch into their rst acoustic song. The guys played about four songs, with a great repartee between songs and an energy that captivated the room. Our decision was made, we didn’t know anything about these guys, but they were going to be our music story.

Jim and Orlando introduce themselves, followed by Tom, the rock star drummer. As we get into conversation Tom asked where I’m from, detecting my Birmingham accent, he himself hails from that part of the world and a little conversation reveals we are actually from the same area. He is also a massive petrol head. The guys are playing a full gig in about a week, so they send us some links to their recorded music and invite us to see them play at the Black Heart in Camden. Job done, time for diner and we say our goodbyes.
Duke of Wolves are a London based rock band formed by school friends Jim and Orlando, who had started to produce some tracks together then joined drummer Tom, who had been in a previous band with Jim and the elusive Sara on bass and backing vocals. Like most bands today they are putting out records using social media and getting out there to play live. Their in uences are Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Kinks and Rage Against the Machine and they’d describe themselves as the love child of the Queens of the Stone Age and Muse. From the acoustic set we heard I can hear the old school in uences easily and can anticipate the Rage and QOTSA will come hard at me when they strike up plugged in with their
