The Gala evening to celebrate the A.W.E 4 day art exhibition was held amongst the artwork displayed at The Bloomsbury Hotel on the 3rd February. The exhibition’s full title was ‘Art, Women, and the Evolution’ and was curated by photographer and artiste Daniele Mah from the artists assembled by Marchella De Angelis. Sister Marchella and Daniele have always held a passion for all that is creative.
The ideal that Marchella champions is making art accessible, so the exhibition was open to the public for free. Daniela had taken portraits of all the artists participating and the prints hung, as art in themselves, by the work of the artiste, which made identi cation of the artists throughout the evening a lot easier. During the Gala evening the 150 guests could chat with the artists, view and purchase the art during the fabulous dinner.
We were greeted with a champagne reception and the table plans been painstakingly drawn up to introduce the eclectic crowd of art lovers and get conversations owing, with one of the artists from the exhibition was seated at each table.
During the evening the raf e with fabulous donated prizes, raised substantial funds for the Centrepoint charity for the homeless. The three course dinner was superb and the wine very well chosen and plentiful. It was so refreshing to be at a Gala where we men were outnumbered by the ladies, everyone had made a real effort to get dressed up and both men and women looked amazing.
A table was taken by Mark Hix, the super chef behind the ‘Hix’ bar and restaurant brand and the supercool Hoxton based Tram Shed ‘cow and chicken’ eatery. Mark is a well known patron and lover of art and has been instrumental in the discovery of many emerging art talents. The basement of the Tram Shed restaurant is utilised as a gallery and there are some pretty awesome works in his restaurants.
As the evening drew to a close we were invited to join the diehard’s in the bar at Bloomsbury, but with my car waiting right outside it was time to make a discreet exit and head for home.
