Austria was to be the location for Paddock Life’s rst snow sports shoot, the Leck Zürs ski resort is rated in the top 5 worldwide and is the largest in Austria, Jenny had selected Lech am Arlberg, as our base, a mountain village and exclusive ski resort in the Blundenz district of the Austrian state of Vorarlberg sitting prettily of the banks of the river Lech. Her family had skied here for many years, so with some local knowledge and a few friends working in the resort it seemed like natural choice.
The main priority in Lech Zürs am Arlberg is Alpine skiing, the excellent facilities and 305km of adventurous ski slopes has always raised the
heartbeat of its skiers. The variation of slopes offering varied skiing for the outright downhill skier or snowboard shredder to the more relaxed family orientated runs. The area boasts the historic claim of having the rst ever ski lift, now a network of 88 cable cars and lifts connect the slopes and another 200km of high Alpine deep powder snow runs. Over the decades the resort has become known as the ‘cradle of Alpine skiing’. This was to be our base for week with Jenny arriving on Tuesday to set everything up for me to arrive Wednesday evening for the days shoot on Thursday.
Our base camp for the Paddock Life mountain shoot was to be a fabulous family run authentic
residence. The Hotel Lech Chesa Rosa is set across two houses, both with traditional cosy lounges and open res, whilst the main house has the restaurant, bar and reception area. In the basement was a sauna and the boot rooms had plenty of heated racks to dry boots, the staff are discreetly attentive, and the food was fabulous with a menu of local dishes, great beers and a decent wine list. The hotel had been booked for us by the amazingly helpful tourism board of Lech Zürs.
Jenny had a couple of days on location with an old friend and former Pro snowboard rider Patrick, scouting locations. Patrick and his friends had built us a jump just off piste where we could shoot
