And so as was carefully planned and intended - the inaugural V8Rally 2017 celebrating the supposed ‘Modern Woman’ did take place on its’ rightful weekend of June the 9th to the 11th
Fabulous weather, beautiful cars, delightful people, an overabundance of food and ever so much fun were just some of the ingredients of this bespoke event hosted by Victory8 and kindly sponsored by Chubb, Lockton, Quintessence Yachts, Pirelli and Penny Banks.
The Modern Woman (aka MW) was indeed in her element .... doing feminine things.
The cortege set off after a fabulous welcome lunch at the Danesfield in Marlow, steered by the gallant Michael Parchment whose mission was quite simply to protect all the 40 women or so in procession and ensure a safe arrival to base camp.
This also included the brave men who had decided to join the rally disguised as women .... apparently it was a further opportunity to study the female of the species in greater detail.
And of course, any MW worth her reputation was going to be nothing more than totally polite about their presence, let alone their dress sense or rather lack of it.
Upon arrival at the ever-glorious Ellenborough Park, bell boys and members of staff scurried to greet the parade of cars drawing up the drive - bearing crystal glasses sitting on silver trays brimming with extra cold Meinklang Rose.
Amidst a flurry of excited conversation, kisses and hugs, the ladies were then led to join an alternative wine workshop hosted by Alan of Cool Grapes.
Here the MW learnt about the burial of cow horns in tandem with the Full Moon influencing the harvest, leaf days and indeed the fact that Orange was soon to be the new Rose...
A Rally with a difference was beginning to look like an understatement.
I’m pleased to say the evening ended with applaud and the assembly sashayed to an outdoor feast of further over indulgences, fine wine and music.
The following day saw more driving as the cavalcade swept graciously through the glorious Cotswolds countryside with a pit stop stop at Snows Hill Lavender Farm. Here our MW’s held lavender pouches up to their noses and took deep breaths whilst some even bought soaps, creams and anti- moth pouches.
Another lunch and a little more driving saw us all back just in time for an audience with Joy Lo Dico of the Evening Standard – deliberating on the wonderful and bizarre topic of Social Media.
Later that evening our MW’s were joined by their spouses, partners and friends for the Grand Finale Gala Dinner and Charity Auction. Aside from money being raised for a brave new charity called Grit&Rock, the great hall was also host to further celebration, laughter and mischief as some of us danced the night away till dawn.
And with all this over I have asked myself – what exactly is the Modern Woman? I can conclude quite simply that she is nothing like a man!
P.S
My name is Marchella De Angelis and I wrote that other jesting article called ‘ Girls just wanna have fun ’ ...in the previous edition of this wonderful and ever eclectic magazine they call Paddock Life.
No longer anonymous nor shy, I shall be gracing these pages with the odd article every now and then.
