‘Stole My Love’ is a lovely jazzy number featuring Will on chromatic harmonica (but
with a blistering diatonic solo in the middle) and with great playing from the rest of
the band; Bobby Harrison (guitar), Greg Coulson (keyboards), Russell Carr (bass) and
Steve Rushton (drums). ‘Girl’s Got Soul’ and ‘Learn How to Love’ are both up tempo
rockers, again with great harp from Will that is as powerful as modern rock guitar
playing with similar use of effects pedals. ‘Broken Dream Blues’ is a 6-minute slow
blues with more muscular harp playing, as also displayed on the closer ‘Don’t Trust
Me’ with high-register playing reminiscent of John Popper. This is a fine album from
Will that really showcases his harmonica playing that uses modern technology but
also respects blues history, with also tasteful support from the band that allows Will
to star out front with both his vocals and harp playing.

The prolific harmonica player Bob Corritore uses his
connections with blues acts who play at his Phoenix
club The Rhythm Room and appear on his KJZZ radio
show to get them to record with him. This latest
album features an ever-changing band consisting of
amongst others guitarists Jimi “Primetime” Smith,
Duke Robillard, Johnny Burgin and Bob Margolin;
keyboard players Anthony Geraci and Dave Keyes;
Bob Stroger (bass) and Wes Starr, Stephen Hodges or
Brian Fahey (drums). We begin with the smooth ‘Say Baby Say’ with Thornetta Davis
on vocals, while ‘Woman Wanted’ is a low-down Chicago blues with Oscar Wilson
(vocalist with The Cash Box Kings) up front and Bob Margolin on Muddy-style slide.
Norah Jean’s powerful vocals feature on the title track and I was a bit nervous about
the version of Memphis Slim’s ‘I Guess I’m A Fool’ which is a favourite track of mine
but I needn’t have worried, this is a tasteful version with Francine Reed singing and
nice subtle piano and guitar from Ben Levin and Duke Robillard.
Oscar Wilson is back for ‘Just a Dream’ (not the Big Bill Broonzy song) and on ‘I’ve Got
Three Problems’ Bobby Rush is up front and being Bobby you know exactly what
those problems are going to be – his woman, his girlfriend and his wife! Thornetta
Davis is back for the swinging ‘That Don’t Appease Me’ with Mark Earley on baritone
sax and Tia Carroll sings on the moody ‘I’ve Got to Be with You Tonight’ with Mr.
Corritore playing chromatic harmonica. John Primer plays guitar and sings on ‘Twen-
ty Room House’ and Carla Denise and Jimi “Primetime” Smith share the vocals on the
rocking Jimmy Reed-style ‘Same Old Thing’ with great piano from Mr. Geraci and ‘My
