When you experienced a breakthrough, what led to it?
“Being able to work with (National Team Kata Head Coach) Katarina Vadovicova at the WKF Worlds in Austria.
“She helped me believe that I could win. She worked on my kata with me breaking it down, not just repeating the entire kata over and over again.
“Then I got top score at preliminaries, even against the 2014 world champion, that was thanks to Katarina’s coaching.
“I so much wanted her up at the podium with me, sooo much. Thank you Katarina, thank you.”
What was the best advice you were ever given?
“I was given a plaque a year ago at the dojo’s Christmas party. It says “fall down seven times get up eight.” It was given to me by Sensei Whittal. I believe
it was given to me mainly because I am epileptic
Do you have a saying or motto that you live your life by?
“I DO NOT use or believe the word CANNOT.
“I will keep my thoughts positive because my thoughts become my words.
“I will keep my words positive because my words become my actions.
“I will keep my actions positive because my actions become my values.
“I will keep my values positive because my values become my destiny.
“They are my thoughts, my words, my actions, my values, my choice.”
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
“My friends/family, coaches, judges, senseis, teammates... Other Para athletes.”
What is next for you?
“Strasbourg, France, maybe Curacao the Para Pan American Championships, a couple WKF Tournaments that offer Para-Karate Divisions (unfortunately those are few and far between.)”
Anything else you’d like to share?
“Not all disabilities are visible. You cannot see a brain injury and remember that Pobody is Nerfect...”

when I have a seizure I fall and I keep getting up after I seize.
“I think about it a little differently. I know eventually I will fall, I will fail, right now I am very lucky with the wins that I am achieving. Eventually someone else will win.
“What matters is what we do after, getting up, number eight.
“Do we make excuses for why it happened, or do we accept it, honour it, deal with it and learn to better ourselves from it.”
