Tominaga Sensei will be missed
Kata Athletes Eligible for Carding
Individual kata competition will be included in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
As a result, athletes will be eligible for Sport Canada’s Athlete Assistance Program (Carding) support on the basis of their performances in individual kata divisions, as of the next Carding cycle (2017-2018).
Please check the Karate Canada web site for the updated version of the 2017-2018 Carding Criteria which relects this important change, and allows for equitable selection of kata and kumite athletes for Carding nominations as of 2017.
Karate New Brunswick President Donald Mazerolle has been named to the Karate Canada Oficials’ Committee where he will be joining existing members Jaroslav Tarana (Chair), Babak Sotoudeh and Andreas Kuntze.
A long-time judge and referee himself, Don will bring additional experience and expertise to this Committee.
Karate Canada was saddened at the passing of Tominaga Sensei, a long-time member
of the Karate Canada and Karate Ontario Technical Advisory Committees as well as an international referee.
Suenori Tominaga, who died Dec. 16, 2016 at Scarborough Hospital, will be remembered for his commitment and contributions to Karate in Canada.
He is the Founder of Jinbukai Canada, a recognized association within Karate Canada, and taught at the University of Toronto Karate Club for 46 years and at the Goulding Karate Club for over 20 years.
In his spare time, he was the long-time president of the Fukuoka Kenjin Kai Toronto, GO board game player and avid isherman.
Tominaga Sensei’s commitment and contributions to Karate, the sport, and the art, have had a profound and lasting positive effect on the Canadian Karate community.
He will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his widow Natsuyo Tominaga and only child Hana Tominaga.
