2016 Summit – a Success
KARATE Nassim Varasteh and Denis CANADA Beaudoin, who led and / or co- SUMMIT led national kata and kumite
A total of 110 members and, for the irst time, non-members took part in the 2016 Karate Canada annual Summit in Toronto.
This event was overall a considerable success, and
gave athletes and coaches a chance to get together and to take part in various workshops, seminars, meetings, trainings
and conferences, beneiting athletes, coaches, instructors, oficials, leaders and administrators.
Karate Ontario, the Coaching Association of Canada and the Investors Group provided assistance and support in hosting this important event.
A big thank you to the numerous participants, volunteers and staff involved in making this event such a success.

This includes our Oficials’ Committee members Yaro Tarana (Chair), Andreas Kuntze and Babak Sotoudeh (who co- led a two-day Referee Clinic).

Also taking part were the members of our Technical Advisory Committee and examiners, who held national Dan testings and our Para- Karate Committee Chair and National Para Team Head Coach Heather Fidyk who led a training and education session for para-karate athletes and coaches.
Our Medical Chair Gus C. Kandilas led a seminar on Concussion Awareness and Management and all the medical support staff.
The members of our NCCP Committee Gérard Lauzière (Chair) and Gary Walsh co-led a one- day NCCP Comp Dev karate-speciic course while our High Performance Committee Chair Dr. Peter G. Davis offered a conference on Karate Canada’s new High Performance Plan and direction.
Karate Canada sincerely thanks our two very special guest star instructors Davide Benetello
of Italy, one of the world’s most decorated karate competitors, and Japanese Peruvian Akio Tamashiro, one of the world’s foremost kata competitors of the last decade, who generously sharedtheirextensiveexpertisewithourathletes and coaches in this rare visit to Canada.
