Page 57 - Be Your Most Brilliant Self!
P. 57
Judgement and criticism damage confidence and lower self-esteem.
The naming, blaming, shaming game, whether of others or of
ourselves does not foster any form of healthy accountability. In fact,
it does the opposite! It creates an environment in which people are
afraid to make mistakes, fearful of being targeted, humiliated and
punished.
If through fear and judgement we learn to hide our mistakes, this
actually denies us the opportunity to learn from an experience.
However, removing any form of criticism whatsoever also denies us
the opportunity to grow from our mistakes.
We remove the opportunity for healthy evaluation, to be ‘real’ with
ourselves, to do better, to strive to be more, and to truly enjoy the
fulfilment and the self-respect that comes from knowing that we
genuinely did our best, especially when we then succeed.
Change your inner critic to an inner critique.
Cultivate an attitude in which mistakes, your own and those of
others, are appreciated and valued for the learning curve that they
bring.
With a healthy critique, a Mistake becomes a gift that supports us in
becoming even more than we already are.
