School Volunteering Contribution to the Improvement of
School Culture
For more then a decade in Mlinarska Nurses School school volunteer club exists. Considering
that volunteering implies persons free time engagement, main benefit is personal and
professional development.
The importance of volunteering for School as educational institution is multiple. Students who
volunteer develop their self-esteem and empathy, they learn social and communication skills,
and acquire generic competencies. Volunteering makes school environment safe. Volunteer
activities prevent violence, enables useful spending of free time for students, developes socially
acceptable value system and improves interpersonal relationships. School as institution
becomes recognizable which includes better connection with community and development of
school culture.
This paper presents diversity of opinions and experience of students and teacher that volunteer,
impact on their personal and professional development, also on school culture.
