Innovative Forms of Learning in the Teaching of Child and
Adolescent Health Care – an Example of Good Practice
Vocational education and training is a function of the development of professional
competencies that must meet the needs of today's modern, competitive and flexible labor
market, which imposes the need for a different approach to learning and teaching, with the
application and use of innovative work methods and procedures in the teaching process.
Without the introduction of innovations, it is not possible to create a high-quality and modern
school that would meet the needs of the times and the rapid development of a profession such
as nursing. As the quality criterion of the national education system stands out as the one that
indicates how well students learn what is expected of them, challenges and changes arise in the
education of nurses that require teachers to daily research new ways of teaching and adapt to
modern teaching that includes innovative teaching methods, focuses on the needs of today's
students with the aim of encouraging active learning, developing creativity, learning through
discovery and problem solving. Health care of healthy children and adolescents is a subject in
the third year of study in the general care nurse/general care medical technician subject to new
topics in the contents of basic education and everyday school life. The curriculum approach is
focused on the development of competences, which requires changes in methods and forms of
work, in which an open didactic-methodical system is proposed, which provides students and
teachers with opportunities to choose content, methods, forms and conditions for achieving
program goals. Innovative teaching methods aim to increase the motivation of students in
shaping the teaching process because they put the student in the center, who learns and develops
his abilities and skills through research, critical thinking, problem solving and collaborative
learning. In teaching content in the field of nursing, teachers can use different methods, and this
work will show some of the innovative methods of teaching in the subject Health Care of
Healthy Children and Adolescents, such as painting, drawing, shaping and modeling, and
writing experienced facts for which has been proven to encourage the expression, creativity and
creative expression of students for the purpose of easier understanding and memorization of
complex teaching content, as an example of good teaching practice of the teachers of the
Medical School of the Bedekovčina High School.
