Project “Everyone Deserves a Dignified Life”

The Vinogradska, Nursing School as a partner of the Platypus association, is participati
ng in a European Solidarity Corps project titled "Everyone Deserves a Dignified Life". The
project is conducted throughout the year, during which participating students Lara Galić, Rita
Pia Kadić, Gabriela Trumbetaš, Leon Volić, Tea Nikl, Karla Živko, Lucia Špančić, Amra
Salihović i Marta Penezić visit various organizations that employ people with disabilities and
associations and organizations that deal with the rights, promotion, and preservation of the
rights and culture of people with disabilities. Primarily, the project focuses on deaf and blind
individuals. Based on what they learned in the first part of the project, the participating students
have developed workshops to educate other students at their school, as well as students from
other schools, kindergarten attendees, and the local community.
The project's goal is to raise awareness among children and youth about the problems and rights
of people with disabilities, spread etiquette on behavior in the presence of people with
disabilities among children and youth, and increase participants competencies for working with
people with disabilities. Additionally, this project will create stronger connections between the
School of Nursing, Platypus, and other schools and kindergartens, which can be used for
organizing activities even after this project ends. The workshops developed by the participants
are fun and informative for children and youth, and future generations of nursing students and
Platypus youth workers will be able to implement them in the schools and kindergartens
involved in this project. Furthermore, the students have divided responsibilities within the
project: one student communicates via email with selected partners, another manages social
media, a third writes articles for online publication, one student is the project treasurer, and so
on for all responsibilities the students have within the project.
The project will greatly help participating students strengthen their public speaking skills, learn
to manage groups (assign tasks and oversee their work), and manage their time effectively.
