Making a 3D Personalized Protective Mask
The use of personal protective equipment is of vital importance in preventing the spread of
aerosol infections in the healthcare system. The most effective protection against aerosol
infections is the use of a protective mask, which means that its presence in the healthcare system
is high, especially during a certain pandemic. The possibilities of designing and manufacturing
such equipment are limited by the use of traditional manufacturing processes.
The development of additive technology, artificial intelligence and virtual reality gives rise to
the possibility of producing a protective mask in a modern and innovative way. The mentioned
new technologies enable design freedom, product customization and manufacturing quality.
The 3D printing process requires a 3D CAD model, software (creates cross-section layers of
the model by storing them as a file on the computer) and a 3D printer (creates the object based
on the file sent from the computer). 3D printing is considered an adequate and proper method
of production because it ensures the possibility of personalization, disinfection, reuse and a high
standard of production. The personalized creation of a 3D protective mask involves three stages.
The first stage is to scan the health worker's face using a handheld scanner to obtain an accurate
topography of the individual's face. This is followed by the phase of generating the first solution
proposals and optimizing the network structure using artificial intelligence. In the third phase,
the first prototype of a 3D personalized protective mask is created, which will be tested on test
subjects
With this work, I want to show the process of creating a personalized protective mask after
scanning the face of a healthcare worker. I also want to show the methodology of testing the
suitability of a 3D personalized protective mask and its impact on the quality of life and work
of a healthcare worker.
