“Of course!” laughed Sunny Ray. “Look out the window!
The grass, leaves, trees all are many amazing shades of
green.”
“Yes, I can see them. They are so beautiful! I really want
to paint them on paper!” Brush enthusiastically exclaimed,
and then peeked over at Paper.
Paper lay quietly on the table, not even moving her
leaves. “I love to watch the sunset. Most evenings I see it in
the window,” she said softly and sighed. “One color is so
special. But it must be so difficult to find. It can’t be . . .”
“Of course it can be!” Colors answered excitedly.
“It’s easy! When we blend red and blue, like magic, we
have the color purple!”
Sunny Ray smiled affectionately and said to Paper.
“There’s another color for you!” He looked out the
window and added, “Evening will be here soon and you
will see that dusky purple.”
Everyone fell silent. And suddenly Paper moved toward
the box with Colors and Brush. She unfolded her white
sheets and said resolutely, “Okay, you can paint your
colored spots on my sheets.”
Protesting, Brush looked at Paper and said, ”Excuse me,
