We talked a lot about Emilio Sanchez and the possibility that he could have poisoned Uncle
Trent but how to prove it? I kind of figured that he was responsible for Wire to come up
missing too and maybe he even knew something about the disappearance of Seth Watkins. I sure
couldn’t prove that he had poisoned Uncle Trent but who else could have done it? Everyone
but Juan thought Uncle Trent died from natural causes.
It was time to go to Trinidad and enter the annual rodeo there. They were having a bronc riding
contest along with a lot of other events. Juan chose to stay at the ranch although I told him he
should go with us. Gilberto became getting anxious to go someplace. I sold the weanling horse
colts that we got from Guerras ranch in Mexico. The colts were shipped to Las Vegas and I
would put the money in the bank the first chance I could. I kept seven fillies, as they would
make good mares. I was getting a lot of horses and word was out that they were some of the
best in the country for miles around. Gilberto sure done a good job on the ones he trained. I
kept trying to find out where Tamale was and if I could buy him back. I used “Amarillo” for a
herd sire and he put some real nice foals on the ground by the looks of this year’s crop but I sure
would like to get a hold of the stallion that started it all. You could tell just reading Uncle
Trent’s’ journals that he was sure proud of him.
I never saw Tamale but I could picture him. Juan said he was stout and medium height with lots
of muscle and good legs as far as bone structure. Straight legged and a good back Juan
said his biggest downfall was his head. His head was a little big for his body. If I could get him
back on the ranch producing colts, I’d feel like I was repaying Uncle Trent for trusting me with
this place. It sounded like in his journals, that he was wanting to get “Caliente” back home
also.
