The 2023 season got underway in earnest in the west with solid double-digit gains over May 2022 while in the east; Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic region continued to endure questionable weather conditions with the Atlantic provinces experiencing the most problematic. Ontario managed a small increase, while both Quebec and Atlantic were off significantly from last May.
Nationally, average rounds grew by 8.5% bringing the YTD just into positive territory at a 2.9% increase, reflecting a very poor April start.
On a brighter note, all regions comfortably exceeded 5-year average May levels by amounts ranging from 11% to 57%.

       REPORT HIGHLIGHTS
Dollar volume changes were highly regionalized in May with Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta all showing strong growth while Ontario declined, and Manitoba/Saskatchewan was essentially unchanged from 2022.
Transaction numbers showed a similar pattern but with a large drop in the Atlantic region whereas dollar volumes managed to show double digit increases. As Quebec and Atlantic both saw lower rounds played in the month; the revenue increases were likely due to membership and equipment sales, or seasonal green fee packages.
YTD dollar volumes show that Ontario remains the outlier with a small decrease compared to 2022, while most other regions are solidly ahead. In terms of transaction numbers, Atlantic and Manitoba/Saskatchewan are lagging over the prior year while all other regions remain ahead at varying rates.
