of the wall is our lounge. It houses eight 6’ round tables. In their concept, this will change to small and medium square/ rectangular tables and banquets to seat more diners.”
“Legacy” course; John’s legacy. At this point, we realized that given the downturn in the economy and the decline in golf, we were going to have to utilize our temporary clubhouse for the foreseeable future.
TIME TO UPGRADE
I grew up in the golf industry, and except for a “get me out of this” period of time from my latter teens through my career years, I wanted to work with John’s vision and build on it.
Tyler MacEachern, our Director of Golf, and I are foodies. So, we worked on changing our menu from your typical fast fare to fast food when you need it, but “whole” foods for the most part, which is what the public wanted. That led us to the addition of our current Chef, Steve Jamieson, and our Sous Chef, Amanda Beaulieu. They are an amazing team and compliment each other nicely!
When he noticed the 400 acre property in West Carleton (now the City of Ottawa) that had been for sale for a while, he knew this was where he wanted to build one final course, to keep. It had the water supply, the elevations, the forestation, and it was only 12 minutes to Kanata, where the growth was inching closer.
Mr. Craig, the seller and former farmer of the property, had not wanted to sell to developers. He wanted something more for his homestead. When Mr. Craig met John, he finally found someone who shared his viewpoint.

John’s vision was a golf course: a greenscape filled with parkland, water, and where stewards of the land would care for the property, similar to how it had been cared for by Mr.Craig. John built a “temporary clubhouse” which he envisioned as the future club storage, golf cart depot, and snack bar.
However, with the downturn of the economy in 2008, things changed. In 2009, after battling cancer for five years, John succumbed to that terrible disease without seeing the final 9 holes of the property finished. Thus, the last 18 holes is now called the
