With the golf season in full swing, I hope that your rounds played data is trending in the same direction (+4.4% increase) as the latest data from our Rounds Played and Weather Reports. Last year we experienced a national increase of almost 11% over the previous year and that positive trend seems to be continuing this year.
This is a great news story for the golf industry. Let’s celebrate this data and share with mainstream media that ‘golf is not dying’ after all!
If you aren’t participating in these Reports (available exclusively for FREE to NGCOA Canada members), I strongly recommend that you look into it. It takes only a few minutes each month to answer four questions and the Reports that participating courses receive are invaluable.
Sticking with research, we will be updating the NGCOA Canada Compen- sation and Benefits Report this fall so make sure to look for the communication we will be sending you on this. The Report covers close to a dozen key management positions and breaks them down by province, number of holes, number of rounds, gross revenues, and type of facility.
The compensation is then further broken down by the average, 25th percentile, median and 75th percentile. This is such an important tool for owners and operators to have when hiring key staff. It takes the guesswork out of your decisions and ensures that you aren’t overpaying for any of your key positions or are paying fairly to avoid constant turnover. And, all members who participate in the survey receive the report FREE of charge (this represents a savings of $279).

Moving over to events, I hope that you will be able to attend your Chapter’s Invitational this year. This is our way to say Thank You and to provide you with an event that brings together all of your peers for a fun and relaxing day. In last year’s membership survey, you told us that networking with other golf industry stakeholders was a top priority and we listened! Check out ngcoa.ca/events to find out when your chapter invitational is taking place. Our staff from across the country look forward to hosting and toasting you for a day!
Last but not least, I invite you all to join me in Whistler from November 17 to 19 for the 16th Annual Golf Business Canada Conference & Trade Show. Aside from the spectacular location (Whistler) and venue (the Fairmont Chateau Whistler), the program will have sessions for everyone, from new comers to veterans.
P
New this year is the launch of the Golf Tourism Summit that will run in conjunction with the Conference. With tourism being an important component to many courses, your National Board felt that this was an important step in the evolution of our industry. On day one, delegates will choose between Operational Breakouts or the Golf Tourism Summit. I encourage you all to invest in your business and your staff by joining me for this marquee event.
Wishing you all continued success for the remainder of the season and I look forward to seeing you to Whistler!
