Overarching the above activities is a process that will unfold over the next eight months. The “Redesigning the CGSA” project will use stakeholder input to identify the future role of the CGSA and to develop a business plan to implement that vision. It’s going to be an exciting 2015!
The “Go To” Resource
As the national professional association for managers of private and semi-private clubs, CSCM has positioned itself as the “go to” resource for club management in Canada. Although our members are from all types of clubs (yacht, athletic, city, faculty, racquet, etc), over 70% are golf or golf and country clubs. Professional development, certification in club management and a strong network of club managers provide the foundation for a wide variety of programs and services.
Adapted from the Certified Club Manager (CCM) program developed by the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) and launched in 2004, certification
“Research with Tee-It Forward participants indicate that 70% of players had more fun, 90% would encourage their friends to Tee- It-Forward and 52% would play more often knowing
they could Tee-It Forward.”
requires a commitment of at least 6 years and we’re pleased to have 52 CCM’s in Canada with over 130 actively pursuing the designation.
One of the requirements is the completion of core “business management institute” (BMI) courses – 5 day university based education programs in club management. CSCM now offers 3 of these programs in Canada in a successful partnership with Ryerson University and we’re excited to launch a fourth – BMI Food and Beverage – this coming January.
This year, CSCM launched an extensive strategic planning process – A New Strategic Plan, A New Vista – for 2015 and beyond. Commencing with national and branch leadership discussions in October, an extensive member survey was completed in December and combined with focus groups of members and non-members, consultations with Corporate Partners and our allied associations, including the members of NAGA, the results will form the basis of the development of a new plan at the upcoming Leadership Forum with the national Board and Branch Presidents in April.
PGA Championship of Canada
Earlier this year, the PGA of Canada announced its most prestigious championship would be contested at the country’s most talked about golf venue.
Cabot Links plays host to the PGA Championship of Canada sponsored by Mr. Lube and presented by TaylorMade- Adidas Golf on June 14 – 18, 2015. This year’s championship sees a format change with the top 64 players from the PGA of Canada Player Rankings presented by RBC playing two rounds of stroke play. The top 16 players from the 36-hole stroke play portion of the event will fill the four match play brackets—Stan Leonard, George Knudson, Al Balding and Moe Norman—with the eventual champion winning four match play rounds.
PGA Junior League Golf
The recently rebranded program and website of the PGA Junior League Golf, is delivered through a low-stress, two-player scramble format accommodating juniors of all skill levels. Each event consists of a 9-hole match that is divided into three segments, allowing PGA of Canada professionals to ‘substitute’ players throughout from their team of 10-12 juniors. Under the leadership of PGA of Canada golf professionals, PGA Junior League Golf further adds to the positive, fun-filled experience of CN Future Links programming.
