3rd Place Idea
Delegates of the 2014 Golf Business Canada Conference & Trade Show were challenged to find their course’s Missing Link at The Missing Link Idea Session Game Show. Armed with their best ideas from this past season, each group of delegates chose their best idea and presented it on stage to the panel of “esteemed” judges.
Presented by Kubota Canada, the Missing Link Idea Session is one of the most highly regarded and beneficial components of the annual Golf Business Canada Conference & Trade Show.
The 1st place winner was given an opportunity to choose the Kubota tractor, mower or utility vehicle of their choice. The selected Kubota vehicle will be delivered to the winning club, and will be theirs for one full season. Kubota also provided the top four winners with generous gift baskets.
The top ideas will be presented in upcoming issues of Golf Business Canada magazine.

James Cronk, Host of the Missing Link Idea Session
At River Spirit Golf Club, we want to grow the game of golf and welcome more junior golfers to our facility. Our idea was to reach out to the golf coaches and athletic directors in our region about hosting the provincial high school golf championships.
After numerous meetings, River Spirit Golf Club and Redwood Meadows Golf & Country Club were selected to host the 2014 Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association (ASAA) High School Provincial Championships on a Monday and Tuesday in late September. Leading up to the provincials, our course was also the home facility for the high school students competing in the local zone and divisionals for our region.
Our promotional offer to the junior golfers was for anyone on the competing teams to golf for free in advance of the events (after 2pm), as well as reduced food and beverage prices and special guest rates for their parents. We included a special button on our POS to keep track of the revenue generated from this promotion.
In total, we had 132 juniors registered at our facility for these events. They represented over $41,000 in additional revenue generated from their food and beverage purchases on those practice and tournament days, as well as accompanying guest rounds on the practice days. In addition, we also generated green fee and banquet revenue on the Monday and Tuesday for hosting the provincial championships.
We generated excellent word of mouth advertising and will be involved again this season hosting the zones and divisionals for our region. Unfortunately hosting the provincial championship in consecutive years is not possible. We will once again be offering the same great opportunity and promotions to the local junior golfers.
