Traditionally, golf is a four person game. However, too often, golfers book a foursome but show up as only two or three players without prov- iding any notice, which is lost revenue.
To help lower these losses and turn them into gains, in the spring of 2019 we began consistently holding golfers accountable to the number of players they booked by requiring a credit card number at the time of booking. If a group booked 4 players but showed as less, they would still be charged for the number of players in the original booking.
In addition, we implemented a foursome only policy where we would only allow foursomes to book and play on weekends and holidays before 11:30am. With the success of these protocols, we decided to take it a step further in 2020, and we implemented our foursome only policy every day until 1:30pm.
By holding golfers accountable to their reservations, we were able to de- crease our rate of golfers who did not
show up to their booked tee time, from 10% of all booked tee times in 2018 to only 1.8% in 2020, an increase in revenue of $14,118 between June – September.
By restricting twosomes and threesomes from playing during certain time periods, we went from having 86 unpaired twosomes in 2018 to only 8 unpaired twosomes in 2020, an increase in revenue of $12,315. Combined, these two protocols earned us an additional $26,433 in only four months.
These protocols were made easier because of the Club Prophet Systems and Moneris Vault integration, which allows the card used to book online to be charged on the day of play for the foursome, regardless of how many golfers show up for the reservation.
By holding golfers accountable to their reservations and giving priority booking to foursomes, our revenue has increased and we have saved on preventable losses each year.
