reach out” to peers, and to “become involved with your Provincial and National turf associations”. He says, “TheSuperintendentprofessionisan exceptionally small, tight knit community and there is no lack of professionals that are willing and eager to share information with anyone that asks.”
At the Ladies’ Golf Club of Toronto, John has created a good team environment by teaching and sharing his own experiences with his staff. He leads by example, showing up before employees in the mornings and he shows his appreciation by rewarding them with pizza, outings, gift cards, and an annual Christmas Party at the maintenance facility.
John knew that leading the golf course grounds crew was the profession for him as he enjoyed learning about the equipment operations, projects, and daily procedures at an early age. He is taking his passion for our industry and is teaching his knowledge to upcoming turf devotees.
John is both honoured and humbled to be the next CGSA President and he plans to use his Board experience to help grow the CGSA. John says, “We are in a financially secure position but there is immense potential to expand”. John feels that the Assistant Superintendents are the future of our
profession and that we need to promote the true value of our membership by showing how it helps to further careers. John wants to address this opportunity by exploring the possibility of Facility Membership Option which would offer a discounted rate to multiple people who want to join from one facility, thus encouraging the growth of our association.
Along with the National Golf Course Owners Association Canada, the CGSA has recently announced a collaboration with the GEO Foundation for new initiatives on sustainable golf that supports the business of golf, the stewardship of golf courses, and the
