February 27-29, 2024, Canada’s top in the turf industry were celebrated during the Canadian Golf Course Management Conference in Montreal, Quebec. The esteemed recipients were recognized during the Awards luncheon and were further honoured throughout the rest of the conference. Thank you to ENVU for sponsoring the awards lunch. Also, thank you to ENVU, Toro, Rain Bird and the Foley Company for sponsoring the awards.

Eric Ruhs, Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club – the 2023 CGSA/ENVU Superintendent of the Year. Eric was recognized by Ryan Beauchamp, Golf Segment Manager for Canada from ENVU. Eric has dedicated his 40-year career to the same golf club and has been their Superintendent since 1987. Eric has been a CGSA member since 1985, a volunteer for the OVTA and a trailblazer in Ottawa for advocating turf research and environmental stewardship.
Nick Daley, Capilano Golf and Country Club – the 2023 CGSA/ Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year. Josh Tubbs, Senior Marketing Director of the Toro Company presented Nick with the award. Nick represents the next generation of leaders in the turf industry by continuing to develop and show his professionalism, outstanding leadership, work ethic and enthusiasm. He has been a CGSA member since 2019 and in the turf industry since 2013.
Garry Haynes MS, AGS, Play Golf Calgary – the 2023 CGSA/ Rain Bird Environmental Achievement Award Winner. Erica Beck, Golf Area Manager Canada, Rain Bird International, Inc. presented Garry with his award for his environmental stewardship. As the Master Superintendent and Director of Agronomy, Garry was a part of developing an environmentally friendly maintenance shop at Serenity Golf Club. Garry has been a member of the CGSA since 1999 and currently sits on the Editorial Committee.
