u PRESIDENT’S VIEWPOINT u JOHN MCLINDEN, AGS
Charting the Course!
I am truly honoured and humbled to
serve as your 56th President of the CGSA. I first joined the board in January of 2016 and one of the most fulfilling aspects of my tenure has been all the amazing past Board members I have gotten to know from across the country. One particular member is Pierre Vezeau. Pierre recently finished his term on our Board as immediate Past President at our conference in Montreal. I am going to miss Pierre at our in-person Board meetings and the good times we shared. On behalf of CGSA I would like to thank him for all his tireless work to grow the association. Thank you, Pierre.
Another successful national confer- ence has come and gone. This year’s site was in Montreal, and I would like to thank all sponsors and delegates who attended and supported the show, contributing to its achievement. From the exceptional venue, to the outstanding education program, to a sold-out trade show, we have received many positive comments from attendees. We are always striving to improve our product, so your feedback is essential as we move forward with future conferences. Contact your Provincial Director to share your opinions and ideas. Work is already well underway for next year’s conference in Niagara Falls, Ontario. We
are looking forward to partnering with the OGSA for an exciting and new location for the CGSA conference.
In early March, along with our CEO Kathryn Wood, I was fortunate enough to represent the CGSA at the FEGGA (Federal European Greenkeepers/Superintendents Asso- ciation) conference and International Summit in Madrid, Spain. There were Presidents, CEOs, and Board members from twenty-six countries representing their respective associations at the Summit. Did you know that Iceland has over sixty golf courses?
The Summit lasted two days and during that time, there was a multitude of round table discussions and presentations from various organiza- tion leaders. It was a very eye-opening experience as we learned the true value of associations working together and their advocacy with issues such as pesticide and water restrictions. The conference continued after the Summit with numerous seminars and Spanish hospitality.
Although I have only been Presi- dent for a few weeks, plans and work are well underway for the upcoming year. One item that we have been working on as a Board for the last few months is the refurbishment of our
