  Full Steam Ahead!
Another season has come to a close
and hopefully across the country it was a successful end to the year. A lot of hard work always goes into those last few weeks. Whether its aeration, spray- ing or tarping, a much-needed break is always welcome.
Once that break is over, we turn to conference planning. This year, we are really excited to head to Montreal from February 27-29. This event is not to be missed! Conferences play a very important part in what we do. I believe if you are not always learning, you are falling behind. It is not just the edu- cation these events provide, but the networking and sharing of ideas that make a difference. Our provincial and regional associations do a great job of offering these events so everyone can have access around the country. In late fall, conferences in the west start off the winter season, and you can move across the country from there. Visit www.golfsupers.com to plan ahead and attend these great events across our country.
It was great to head to the GTA and see our Fall Field Day bursting at the seams with a sold-out event at Beacon Hall Golf Club. The course was a treat to play and conditions second to none. Thanks to Colin Young and his staff for going that extra mile for us, it was a great day. Congrats to all the
winners and our provincial Champion team from Manitoba who again took home the Challenge Cup. Watch for next year’s announcement as we head to the West Coast. We will very soon be unveiling another event to add to our golf season calendar. Building off the post covid year where we split the Fall Field Day into an east/west event, we are looking at an early summer event in one region and an early fall one in the other.
Just as our Turf departments have changeover in staffing, so does the CGSA. After six years at the helm of the association, Jeff Calderwood has moved into a strategic advisor role for the CGSA, making way for Kathryn Wood to take over as Inter- im-CEO. Jeff has made great strides in his six years, not the least of which being a positive balance sheet, that may have seemed daunting when he first arrived. In addition, agreements with the provincial associations to help administer their business was a huge accomplishment. The most re- cent addition of the Quebec superin- tendents will be another plus for the Superintendent Profession.
Thank you, Jeff, for your service, but you don’t get to leave yet! We look forward to having you remain a part of our team as we move into 2024. GM
