Dain Mikulic, Associate Superintendent from the Marine Drive Golf Club in
Vancouver, British Columbia, was named the 2022 CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year. The award was presented by Josh Tubbs of The Toro Company, at the 2023 Canadian Golf Course Management Conference award ceremony lunch, surrounded by Dain’s family and peers.
The CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year award recognizes the specific achievements of a golf course Assistant Superintendent whose performance and contributions to the success of the facility go beyond those that would normally be expected. The award is presented to an individual who has contributed to his or her golf facility in a significant way and who has demonstrated professionalism, leadership, innovation and a team approach in their work.
Growing up just off the fifteenth hole of the beautiful Victoria Golf Club, and playing as a junior member, initiated Dain’s curiosity in golf course maintenance. Dain’s father, a golf professional, also owned and operated a golf facility.
Dain started working with Paul Robertson, Assistant General Manager and Links Superintendent of the Victoria Golf Club (VGC) at a young age. “Dain worked for me at the Victoria Golf Club since the age of fourteen. First,

volunteering, and then working his way through every role, including Assistant Superintendent,” says Robertson.
While working at VGC, Dain learned the importance of helping fellow Superintendents by volun- teering his time at Uplands Golf Club. Brian Youell, MS, AGS, Superintendent at Uplands Golf Club says, “I have known Dain for over fifteen years. Dain worked at Victoria Golf Club, and it became very apparent what a kind and hardworking individual he is. Dain has given his time freely for so many years helping others, including helping us at Uplands Golf Club with our PGA Tour events we host each year. He is hardworking and well-liked
