able to let go of the reins a little by teaching and delegating things to certain staff more often. In the end, it motivates staff and gives them sense of accomplishment by empowering them with your trust.”
Many of us have been working in this industry for quite some time and no matter how challenging or tough it can be, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. “Being able to look back at the end of the day, week, month or even year of what we as a team have accomplished is a pretty amazing feeling.” He continues, “It’s a motivator for our team to strive to push and produce the best product possible for members and enjoy the fruits of our labour at the end of the day.”
One area Rempel has been brushing up on and learning more about has been the ever-changing technology in the industry and in equipment being used on the golf course. When asked what he felt was the biggest changes in the industry this is what he had to say. “Just the way technology and the digital age has affected things in general. From GPS sprayers to the way so many of our record keeping has gone digital, using drones, the way information and experiences are shared and explored on turf twitter is just some of the things.” He continued, “Another big one is how we seem to have shifted back to our roots with using much more basic elemental forms of nutrients rather than all sorts of fancy pre-mixed or nutrient enhanced products. It boils down to just basic N-P-K.”
There have been many valuable lessons and words of advice that all of us have gained along the way that schools nor books teach us. A lot of what Rempel has learned along his journey so far has been from listening and learning from others in the industry. One piece of advice that he would give to someone coming into the industry is this, “Lead by example and be a sponge taking in as much info and stories/examples from others as you can. Whether that be at your own club at work or going to as many industry events and socializing with others in industry, take it all in. You can never learn too much.” GM
