Anatomy refers to the science of the structure of living organisms and
physiology refers to the science associated with their functions.

It’s easy to take the eyelashes for granted. They sit over our eyes like a hairy
little roof and typically don’t require much attention. But there’s a lot going on
behind the scenes. Here we look at eyelash anatomy, purpose, and evolution.

                             THE EYELASHES

Gorgeous, long eyelashes can remarkably enhance the beauty of eyes. Natural
eyelashes always grow to a limited length. This is different for every person
though. Normally, the structure and arrangement of your natural lash line is
not regular – it is shorter on the sides and longer in areas close to the center.
For that reason, our Lash Artists follow the natural line and have perfected the
craft of applying lash extensions that look amazingly real!

In one week, the average person will lose 21 natural lashes (7 x 3) In two weeks,
they will lose about 42 In three weeks, they will lose about 63 natural lashes.
New lashes grow frequently and replace the lost ones to maintain the complete
thick look. So, your lashes never get damaged by extensions. The lifetime of a
single eyelash ranges out between 150 to 200 days with most of them being
shed in about 135 days. The number of eyelashes on each lid range widely as
the top eyelid usually accommodates approximately 150 to 200 individual hairs,
while the bottom eyelid may have somewhere between 75 and 100 hairs.

A healthy lifestyle will result in faster growth of your eyelashes. Individuals who
are not as healthy will have eyelashes that grow slower. The speed of growth is
also impacted by the age of the individual. You will lose more eyelashes as you
get older, and it will also take longer to grow back. All in all, an eyelash takes
approximately 12 weeks to re-grow after it has fallen out.

Hair protects any area that it covers, including eyelashes from anything that
might cause the body harm. For instance, sunlight bounces off the hair of the
eyelashes to protect the eyes. Eyelashes also protect the eyes from pollen duct
and other harmful foreign particles. Each lash is a sensory hair that causes the
eyelid to close spontaneously when they are touched by things that could enter
the eye. They also guide sweat away. Therefore, the lashes along the upper lid
line curl upwards whereas those along the lower lid line curl downwards.
