Last journey as “picnic”?
Tall and handsome Nana Jee was landlord and “Angry Old
Man”. Extreme love for Dadda Jee forced him to leave his
ancestral village for Lucknow. Not kind to soft-spoken wife, he
used to love us abundantly. Gifts and sweets assured on
occasions.
One morning he passed away. His “will” was cremation near
Ganga.
Arrangements made and we left for Kanpur.
Last rites performed, ashes immersed by boat in mid-stream of
Ganga. Later we had snacks and lassi.
While returning, one senior jokingly commented, “It was a nice
picnic”.
Couldn‟t reconcile even today as how someone can call last
journey as “picnic”
